Building Details

The City Planning Commission has approved a $100 million renovation of the historic Studio 54 theater at 254 West 54th Street. Designed by Ennead Architects and Rockwell Group, the project will comprehensively modernize the nearly century-old Broadway venue while preserving its historic character.
Planned improvements include reconstructing the stage and restoring the original orchestra pit, installing sloped orchestra seating to improve sightlines, adding ADA-accessible seating, expanding the lobby and front- and back-of-house spaces, relocating the bar and retail areas, renovating restrooms, installing a new elevator serving every level, and upgrading building systems. Seating capacity will be adjusted from 1,006 to approximately 990 seats to enhance audience comfort and accessibility.
The renovation will be funded through a combination of transferable development rights, private fundraising, and public support. Roundabout Theatre Company, which has operated the venue since 2003, has already raised $45 million through its Next Stage Campaign and is pursuing additional city and state funding as the project advances through the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).
