Building Details

  • The City Planning Commission has approved a $100 million renovation of the historic Studio 54 theater at 254 West 54th Street. Designed by Ennead Architects and Rockwell Group, the project will comprehensively modernize the nearly century-old Broadway venue while preserving its historic character.
  • Planned improvements include reconstructing the stage and restoring the original orchestra pit, installing sloped orchestra seating to improve sightlines, adding ADA-accessible seating, expanding the lobby and front- and back-of-house spaces, relocating the bar and retail areas, renovating restrooms, installing a new elevator serving every level, and upgrading building systems. Seating capacity will be adjusted from 1,006 to approximately 990 seats to enhance audience comfort and accessibility.
  • The renovation will be funded through a combination of transferable development rights, private fundraising, and public support. Roundabout Theatre Company, which has operated the venue since 2003, has already raised $45 million through its Next Stage Campaign and is pursuing additional city and state funding as the project advances through the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).
